Park gets Selena's name

Fans of slain Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez won their bid Wednesday for Houston City Council approval of renaming an eastside park in her honor.

City Council unanimously approved renaming Denver Harbor Park to Selena Quintanilla-Perez Park-Denver Harbor. Councilman Ben Reyes said the name change was suggested by Elyse Lanier, wife of Mayor Bob Lanier, when officials were considering requests to honor the singer locally. Parks and Recreation Department officials expect to erect signs carrying the park's new name soon.
